Considered one of Ireland’s hottest exports, The Young Folk are heading down under for a select run of intimate show dates in hand-selected areas around Australia this March. Revered for their gorgeous musical tales of life and vulnerability, and led by Anthony Furey – whose music linage is stuff of Irish music legend – the band are the new Irish sound, something that will appeal to young and old.
Complementing their intimate headline show dates, the foursome, which also includes talented singer-songwriters Paul Butler and Tony McLoughlin, as well as the impressive Alex Borwick, will be joining the bill of some of Australia’s most acclaimed festival line-ups, including Port Fairy Folk Festival and Adelaide Fringe. The Young Folk are renowned in their home country for their effortless ability for balancing delicacy with bold, yet tender songwriting, and combining it all with breathtaking harmonies and musicality, the group bring both a nod to tradition and indie-pop inflection into their music. Their unmistakable Irish heritage is evident in both sound and ancestry.
The Furey name needs no introduction to Australian audiences, as one of the biggest folk bands to come out of Ireland, they have toured Oz countless times. Harking from such a birthright leaves formidable shoes to fill, something that Anthony – son / nephew of the internationally recognized Furey brothers – achieves with ease. His cracking set of vocal pipes set the tone for The Young Folk, guiding the listener through every story, embracing them with the music and then taking them on a heady journey from the first bar until the final moment.
It is no surprise that The Young Folk, despite their name, are veterans of the Irish Festival scene, touring the European circuit extensively winning fans from the Netherlands to London and beyond. They’ve even been asked to perform at a private function for Ireland’s President, an auspicious request indeed.
