Noughties rockers Killing Heidi reunite for a special run of Victorian shows this August celebrating all their hits

It is hard to believe that is has been almost two decades since Killing Heidi released their debut offering Reflector. The album spawned the smash hit singles Weir and Mascara and embedded the album in Australian music history, taking home four ARIA awards, and reaching four-times platinum status. Musician siblings Jesse and Ella Hooper have got the band back together due to popular demand and have announced more Victorian shows for music fans this August.

After quickly selling out Melbourne’s iconic Espy Hotel for Friday August 16, the noughties favourite colour-rockers have added not only an extra show at the revered St Kilda venue, but also two more suburban dates, in Chelsea Heights and Mt Evelyn. Killing Heidi have spent the majority of 2019 on the road, zig-zagging around the country, most recently selling out rooms and receiving rave reviews on tour with their 90s heroes, Baby Animals. However, hometown shows have been rare and consistently sold-out, so it was important to the band that they make a few more rock-opportunities available to their fans.

The August run of shows will also feature special guest, fellow powerhouse rock chick Dallas Frasca, who will open each evening. Every night promises high voltage female-fronted classic rock-pop energy. Audiences who have already seen Dallas and Ella share the same stage know that there is something special about these two ladies together. They teamed up at The Age Music Victoria Awards this year to celebrate Chrissie Amphlett’s induction into the Hall of Fame by performing the iconic Divinyls track Boys In Town and lifted the roof off the event.

“Dallas and I have been waiting for another chance to play this song and let rip together, it will surely be a special feature of these upcoming shows,” says Ella. “The band is more honed-and-hungry than ever and we always get such a great reception just a little out of town. We’re out of towners ourselves, and we love the energy of a good pub show, it’s great fun to balance out the theatres and festival shows we’ve been doing. It’s an instant flash back to the old days, when we were cutting our teeth in these rooms. It’s crazy to think it still feels just as fresh and exciting to be steaming up these iconic sticky carpets once again.”

Killing Heidi smashed onto the Australian music scene with their breakthrough album Reflector in March 2000. The album became one of the most loved pop albums of the decade, sitting the smash singles at #2 (Weir) and #14 (Mascara) on Triple J’s Hottest 100. They won the critically acclaimed APRA Songwriter Of The Year award – a stellar accolade within itself, but double the achievement considering Ella Hooper was the first female and the youngest person the take home the award at the time. Killing Heidi is forever etched into a generation of music lover’s psyche.
